Common questions
What happens when an SSL certificate expires?
Browsers show visitors a full-page security warning, and many people leave. The site is still running, but it looks broken or unsafe until the certificate is renewed.
What happens when a domain registration expires?
The domain can stop working, and websites and email on it can go offline. Registrars usually offer a short grace period, but it varies by registrar, so it is best to renew before the expiration date.
Are an SSL certificate and a domain registration the same thing?
No. The certificate secures the connection to the site and is renewed separately. The domain registration is the name itself and is renewed with your registrar. Both have their own expiration dates, which is why HeyExpiry watches both.
